The Rise of Low Roof Electric Vans in Nepal's Market
Low Roof EV:
A low-roof electric vehicle (EV) is an electric powered automobile designed with a lower overall height than standard vehicles. This design reduces the car's center of gravity, improving stability and aerodynamics, which in turn enhances energy efficiency and increases driving range. Low-roof EVs are typically compact, making them well-suited for urban environments, where maneuverability and efficient use of space are crucial. They often prioritize a sleek and modern appearance while integrating advanced electric drivetrain technologies to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gasoline powered vehicles.
The Rise of Low Roof Electric Vans in Nepal's Market
The Nepali market is seeing a surge in the introduction of "low roof electric vans" from various brands, all around 4.5 meters in length. With the increasing availability of electric vans, competition in the market has intensified.
Multiple companies have been importing electric vans with similar specifications and sizes, leading to a new wave of competitive schemes. All low roof vans currently available in Nepal are equipped with a 42 kWh battery pack, and the price for most models is set at approximately NPR 4.55 million.
As the competition heats up, companies are offering attractive features such as speakers at the back, cameras at both the front and rear, a free fast charger with the purchase of five units, five years of free servicing, expansion of the fast charger network across the country, free insurance, annual maintenance, and extended warranties.
Initially, some brands that were imported to the Nepali market provided a warranty of five years or 200,000 kilometers. Recently, warranties have been extended to six years. This increase in warranty coverage is primarily seen in electric vans that use batteries manufactured by CATL, the world’s largest battery producer.
Business insiders say that warranties for high-voltage batteries in EV vans are provided by the respective manufacturing companies. The manufacturers specify the duration and mileage of the warranty they offer.
In the low roof electric van segment, CG KYC has the largest market share in Nepal, offering a warranty of five years or 200,000 kilometers on its battery pack. Similarly, Dongfeng’s Dafe model, one of the first to arrive in Nepal, also provides a warranty of five years or 200,000 kilometers.
The recently introduced Kama EV van by Triveni Group offers a similar warranty of five years or 200,000 kilometers. Likewise, the Sokon brand, sold by MAW Vriddhi, provides a warranty of up to five years or 200,000 kilometers.
However, the SRM brand, a recent entry into the market, offers a more extended warranty of six years or 360,000 kilometers. Dongfeng's other brand, DFAC, has started offering a battery warranty of five years or 500,000 kilometers. Another Chinese brand, CHTC, provides a warranty of six years or 300,000 kilometers.
